MECC Discovry Phase and Data Collection
MECC, a partnering clinic with Kuranda Mind & Body, has over a decade of experience treating individuals with long standing trauma, anxiety and mood related issues. In these years of developing various practices that integrate trauma informed clinical strategies, tools and protocols, MECC has treated hundreds of individuals and their families.
Through these experiences, it has become evident that many, if not all of the individual’s treated, present with a dysrhythmia in the individual’s brain state, impacting the individual’s ability to return to a desired state of functioning emotionally, relationally and behaviorally.
In the last year, MECC has worked with individuals within the practice to develop an understanding of the benefits of Kuranda’s technology and delivery of neuromodulation tools. In this discovery process, MECC has had various individuals utilize the technology with varied outcomes. Some individuals, finding it difficult to commit to the protocols of attendance 3x per week and some finding it difficult to miss a session. As MECC has asked participants to attend

OUR FINDINGS
DESIRED OUTCOMES
Incorporating vagal integrated vibration and sound therapy into a holistic heath maintenance or acute treatment plan can offer a range of potential benefits.
STRESS REDUCTION
Lower stress levels can improve overall mental well-being and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
IMPROVED MOOD
Enhanced mood and emotional stability, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals with mood disorders.
ENHANCED SLEEP QUALITY
Better sleep quality can improve cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall mental health.
Our Findings
As background research on the existing intellectual property landscape continues, we are developing more specific protocols along with supportive references related to the following critical elements of the multi sensory treatments:
EXAMPLE PHARMACOLOGICAL TREATMENTS CURRENTLY APPROVED FOR USE OR BEING EVALUATED IN HUMAN CLINICAL TRIALS
- Anti-amyloid and anti-tau therapies for AD (e.g. lecanemab)
- Medication for the treatment of PD (e.g. carbidopa, levodopa, rotigotine)
- Drugs used in the treatment of PTSDs (e.g. paroxetine, venlafaxine)

NEUROMODULATION
Non-invasive modality
Pain relief
Emotional and Physical Regulation

STRESS REDUCTION
Increase in expression of antioxidants
Enhanced immune response
Reduced inflammation
Muscle relaxation

STIMULATION OF PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
Improved overall cardiovascular health
Decreased BP, HR and respiration rate
Enhanced lymphatic processes
Vagal Nerve Balancing

SLEEP IMPROVEMENT
Increased glymphatic system activity
Decreased harmful microglia activity
Reduced anxiety

VAT

OUR FINDINGS
STACKING OR COMBINING MECHANISMS OF ACTION

What the team has learned is some of what does and what doesn’t work for individuals. The technology has become more understandable and the team has also learned which individuals can benefit the most from bimodal frequency input. The team has also discovered that considering frequencies and having a more individualized plan for each person will enhance the treatment process and outcomes of this intervention.
Goals of the bi modal technology is to support with the entrainment process, returning the rhythm of the CNS to place of stability and harmony. Most notably, the goal with those individuals who have experienced trauma, is to support the regulation of the CNS at a neuronal level, offering some regulation for the individual. This in turn then can support additional treatment interventions, such as EMDR, TFCBT, DBT and other evidence-based interventions to be more beneficial and supportive for the individual in treatment.

While discovery has extended beyond its first year, understanding the best format to deliver this technology has been a learning process, quite valuable to the team and the developmental phase. It has allowed us to redefine the way in which mental wellness is understood and nurtured. It has become clear that so many individuals, including children, can benefit from and prefer, non pharmacological interventions and methods. It has also allowed us to better understand how to serve the individuals who have an interest in gaining increased stability in the unique functioning of their brain, ultimately, allowing each person to function at their best, living a fulfilled life.
MECC is committed to continued use and data collection of Kuranda’s technology and best delivery of this method. We continue to better understand frequency dysrhythmia and ways to communicate the benefits not only to our community and surrounding areas, but also to others as a whole. MECC is proud of the recent placement of this technology in the school system. Our goal is to offer a tool that rather than isolating dysregulated children, offers thoughtful, organized frequency to support the regulation of their brain, in an environment that often results in sensory overload. This upcoming year, will be an important year for data collection and analysis of hypotheses and determining next steps with this innovative and science based technology.
